Ping G425 LST Driver Review

The Ping G425 Driver LST Driver: A Game-Changer off the Tee for high-swing speeds

The Ping G425 LST Driver is a compelling offering from Ping for golfers seeking an exceptional combination of distance, control, and forgiveness.. The club is specifically targeted at helping high swing-speed golfers reduce spin, improve control, lower launch angles. From our experience, it delivers.

The pear-shaped design of the 445cc head reduces spin and helps promote a lower launch for players that have high swing speeds. Ping claims that it can reduce spin by as much as 200-400 RPMs compared to the previous generation G410 LST (which is something we may trial in the lab in the future). In practice, we noticed that the Ping G425 LST delivered on that promise. It launched lower than any other similar driver in the lab and offered better roll in the fairway compared to other drivers with similar lofts, like the Titleist TSi2.

Beyond the focus on reducing spin, the G425 LST is highly customizable. In terms of ball flight, it has a 17-gram CG shifter that can be set to promote a draw, fade or neutral ball flight. It also has 8 different hosel positions that allow you to adjust the loft and lie to dial in your setup to suit your game and desired ball flight.

Moreover, the Ping G425 is an incredibly forgiving driver. It boasts a large clubhead that provides a higher moment of inertia (MOI) for greater stability on off-center hits. This means even on those occasional mishits, the ball still maintains a decent amount of distance and accuracy. Golfers of all skill levels will appreciate this forgiveness, as it helps to minimize frustration and increases confidence in every swing.

The biggest knock on this driver in our experience is the sound. Ping might describe it as a desirable sound thanks to the internal ribbing in the clubhead but we found it to be rather disappointing. It’s more of a “thud” than a “tink” and we missed the auditory feedback on a nice shot.

In conclusion, the Ping G425 Driver is a truly outstanding club that lives up to marketing hype from Ping. It combines exceptional distance, forgiveness, and customization features to deliver a truly remarkable experience on the course. Whether you're seeking to improve your game or simply enjoy hitting the ball further and straighter, the G425 is definitely a driver worth considering, especially if you’re looking to reduce spin and lower your launch angles. With Ping's reputation for quality and innovation, this club is a worthy investment for anyone looking to take their golf game to new heights.

Rating: 7 out of 10 if you care about the sound. (8 out of 10 if you don’t and it suits your game.)
